Artist and academic based in Philadelphia, PA, USA --

A Fulbright scholar and a European Union grantee, Alessandra Seggi is currently teaching a Temple University in Philadelphia, PA. Her PhD in Sociology and her Master’s in Media Studies are from The New School in New York City. Her specialization is in visual methods and her research interests lie at the intersection of Media and Sociology. She has extensive teaching experience having taught at public and private institutions, in urban and suburban colleges, to American and international students. She has also recently taught college-level Sociology courses to high school students in the Philadelphia public school system.

Her book on the portrayal of suicide and youth--Youth and Suicide in American Cinema: Context, Causes, and Consequences--is forthcoming with Palgrave Macmillan in 2022. It combines sociological and cinematic insights in order to offer a proactive approach to watching films. Alessandra is also an award-winning artist whose favorite media are ink drawing, photography, and oil painting.
